Nestled in the scenic foothills of Changsari, Assam, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences Guwahati stands as the first AIIMS in the Northeast, established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana. This institute of national importance commenced academic operations in 2020, offering 50 MBBS seats annually and aiming to address regional healthcare disparities through advanced medical education and research. Its academic framework is anchored by a competency-based curriculum, integrating early clinical exposure and community medicine, with future plans for comprehensive postgraduate and super-specialty programs. The sprawling 143-hectare campus, still under phased development, is designed to house a 750-bed teaching hospital, separate hostels, and advanced research laboratories. Its strategic location aims to serve as a tertiary care hub for the entire northeastern region, fostering a new generation of medical professionals equipped to tackle unique public health challenges.
