Admission is through the JIPMER entrance exam (now replaced by NEET-UG for MBBS). Candidates must qualify NEET-UG, meet eligibility criteria (age, marks in 10+2 with PCB), and participate in centralized counseling. The process is entirely online via the official JIPMER/NEET counseling website.

JIPMER does not have corporate-style placements. After MBBS, students appear for the NEET-PG exam for postgraduate seats. JIPMER's strong reputation ensures excellent opportunities for securing PG seats in JIPMER itself or other top institutes, and for careers in government service, research, or clinical practice.
JIPMER offers undergraduate (MBBS), postgraduate (MD/MS in various specialties, DM/MCh super-specialties), and doctoral (PhD) programs. It also offers nursing courses (B.Sc., M.Sc.), paramedical courses, and fellowship programs. It is renowned for its medical and surgical super-specialty training.
The campus features a 2,300-bed hospital, modern lecture halls, well-equipped labs, a central library, hostels, sports facilities, and a cafeteria. It provides comprehensive medical, research, and residential infrastructure. The campus is self-contained with banks, a post office, and guest houses.
